That DECATHLON has stores in Australia!!!!!

Who knew??

I thought that this was a treat only for our European friends!

Still have to drive 2-3 hours to the store but who cares!

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
I didn't know but they are a b I t like snow gum or Kathmandu

Quite possibly omar, but perhaps cheaper?

Hope its not out of line to say but your Camino history is incredibly impressive - even more so that you have traveled from Oz to get there!

I have been to the Sydney store a few times, after being a long time fan of the stores in Europe, Singapore and Brazil.

Very glad to confirm that prices are waaaayyy cheaper than Kathmandu or Snow Gum, and products are quite good. Can´t wait to test my new backpack during my Camino Lebaniego later this year.

I´ve also passed by the Knox store near Melbourne while driving, but did not have the chance to enter. It seems quite big.

If they have a brick and mortar store, they certainly have a website... Save the gas and wear and tear, unless you were going that way anyway.

I have a similar situation with my nearest REI outdoors being 3 hours north of me, near Orlando Florida (Winter Park). So, I use the website...

Try https://www.decathlon.com.au/ It worked for me from the US...

According to that website, there presently FOUR stores in Australia. Yes, I know it is a really big place... Those store are located in:

New South Wales: Auburn & Tempe

Victoria: Box Hill South & Knoxville

The website further states that Decathlon offer delivery only at present to: Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra and Gold Coast. Presumably this means the postal metropolitan areas of these cities. Check it out.

See this at: https://content.decathlon.com.au/stores

Hope this helps.

If any of you Aussies are visiting the USA and you need Camino gear go to REI. They have a fantastic assortment of just about everything. They also have really good people who are passionate about outdoor life to help. If you go on their website they have great website. On the website there is the REI outlet with really good deals. You can order from the website and pick up what you want at the store when you arrive. REI is in just about every decent sized city in America. It is even in some really smaller cities that are outdoor destinations or have an active lifestyle. The stores are really big and always well stocked. Check it out if you go. I have been in larger Decathlon stores in Spain and although they are good I do not believe they are a good or as well priced as REI.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I got my Osprey Talon 33 liter pack from REI
Shipped UPS to my home in Maine. Perfect for
the Camino. I go with a about 18 pounds excluding water.
Pack has nice "air chute" against your back for ventilation.
Has served me on three Caminos...French Portugese and
Primitivo/Ingles.
Also really like my Frogg Toggs breathable rain pants and jacket
Which weight just one pound together.
Columbia sells water-proof sneakers which for me work well on Camino.
I go in February so it is all about fast dry polar fleece (( Eddie Bauer) tops and
Sweatpants. Thick Alpaca socks help to prevent blisters.
I travel in Railriders rip-stop nylon ultra-light weight pants.
Just one nice LL Bean button-down shirt so I don't look like a vagabond
going out for diner at night. The Spanish and the Portugese place importance
On proper attire and you get better treatment at restaurants if you don't look like a jogger

Cheers Gumba - it's great news, isn't it. The closest store to me is at Tempe. 'Haven't been there yet but will check it out soon.

Very conveniently, it's located very close to IKEA (buy your poncho there!) and whilst at IKEA, stay for lunch at their restaurant and have some of their famous Swedish meatballs, they're delicious. I do recommend them.

Cheers from Oz -

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Just wondering whethet the outdoor m a rket is getting a bit crowded. In Melbourne we have anaconda, mountain dedigns, paddy pallin, backpack light, bogong, macpac,Kathmandu, snowgum etc.
As for my caminos..i only intended to do one!

Not so good news if you live in Tasmania as there is no store and no delivery.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!

Yep...& we've got a snowflake's chance of getting a store down here!
Good excuse for a side trip next mainland jaunt though.
Even with the demise of Mountain Designs & Ray's Outdoor, Tassie still has Anaconda, MacPac, Paddy Pallin & the all dominating You-Know-Who. There's also AllGoods although they don't specialise & Launy has a new player in Aspire Adventure; geared (ha ha) towards the more hardcore market.

You could probably add BCF to that list...limited range of mainly accessories.
Eg: replacement rubber hiking pole tips;
Kathmandu $13pr, Anaconda $10pr...
BCF $4pr...for the exact same product!

Worth checking out Aldi when they have hiking gear on sale. And when they have motorbike gear, the merino jumpers - still my favourite top layer. Hardy, light, warm. I’ve had the same one for years, and bought a new one last time they were on sale “in case”.
Also check out Costco - from time to time they have useful stuff cheaply. Including the down quilts. Tights from Target!
If I can think of something I need, I’ll be heading for Decathlon too!
Normally I hate shopping.

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

€60,-
Big fan of Decathlon when we were in Spain on the Norte last year. Unfortunately from Western Australia it is probably not that much more expensive to fly to Spain than Melbourne (including accommodation)..... or maybe that is a good thing. Another trip to Spain to shop at decathlon in April and maybe just add on another Camino🤪

An REI close to LAX if your passing thru. Try Amazon basics line too. Really good prices on their own label stuff.

Love Decathlon! Try to get there when I can. I was there for the grand opening of the Sydney store 😁

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-

And quiet possible the best little restaurants in the city within 50 metres of these stores in Little Bourke
Major disruptions there later this year with 28 story Hotel being built right where PP is situated.

Decathlon gear is actually great if you don't intend to use it long term, although they do stock some quality brands too. I think their real value is the very cheap hiking poles that can be pretty much given away at the end of a hike. This means flying hand luggage only is a possibility, and you'd probably save quite a bit knowing what airlines charge these days for checked baggage!

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

A guide to speaking Spanish on the Camino - enrich your pilgrim experience.
Here here to the Decathlon props. Used their inexpensive (approx $70 AUD) Forclaz 50 litre pack for both Camino Norte/Primitivo and then Frances. It's still going strong. Gave their higher end socks a crack last year on the Frances and they were excellent!!

Am after some good gloves for our dec/Jan camino. Nice ones in the UK store but only golf or horse riding gloves in the Aussie stores!
