Experienced pilgrims know the value of a few safety pins.
Some new pilgrims have yet to learn.
How often have you seen teeshirts or socks blown off the clothes lines.
I suggest that this year we all bring some extra pins. They cost very little and weigh almost nothing and yet will enrich the camino of those you give them to.
When you see something on the ground for lack of a pin , hang it up and pin it.
The new pilgrim will be delighted and realise it is a gift from someone else.
Its a win win situation all around.

Buen Camino to you all

Have to agree. I always carry a pack. Great for pinning damp clothes or wool socks to you pack while hiking - allowing them to dry/air.

Most definately a not-to-be- forgotten item! Get the old fashioned babies ones if you can still find them.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Just weighed mine this morning! 3 diaper/nappy pins plus 10 assorted size pins, 10g.

3m paracord is 20g. Last year I used it as a clothes line several times, and to secure my plastic-wrapped backpack when I checked it on the flight home.

30g = priceless

Couldn't find them in any of the stores. Disposable diapers s rules I guess. Had to order them on Amazon.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
I like this idea. Less weight than my rubber line.
Hmmm... now you have me thinking...

Tie them together if you need a longer line. They also work well if you need to string a line on the bottom bunk. You know if the weather is a bit damp and your clothes need more drying.:)

Also extra pair of socks can double as mittens on a cold morning. I like my pack light so I try and be creative.

Yeah - no thinking allowed! You'll get us all in trouble ;)

Safety pins were something that I think I used every single day on the Camino. I think I used them mostly for hanging socks and undies on the clothes line - there were never enough clothes pins, and besides, I think the safety pins help keep other people from accidentally packing up your clothes because they have to actually undo the pin and that gives an extra couple seconds to realize "hey, these aren't my socks".

Taking extras to share is a wonderful idea. I already had 6 safety pins on my packing list, but now I'm going to take a bunch more. They're cheap and weigh almost nothing, and the pleasure they'll give to both the recipient and myself with be more than worth it. Thanks!

What size safety pins work best?

But ok to take them in your handluggage? Does security not confiscate it? Because I remember that when I took some very small individual sterile needles with me they were taken away. Same sharpness I think?
Good point, I didn't think of that! I normally check in my bag, but I took it last time as hand luggage (through Barcelona and Madrid) and no one noticed the pins. I'll think twice about that next time.

I use nappy pins and have have never checked my pack. Never had a problem with the pins, nor with sewing needles, very small (nail) scissors nor nail clippers. I have had an everyday table knife confiscated and don't get me involved taking about the various attitudes encountered at different airport security points regarding poles! I have "donated" these to many needy security personnel. o_O

We do not check out bag and have never had a problem...
