I cannot begin to put into words how excited I am a d how much I am looking forward to my Camino!!! I don't know anyone here in my "normal" circle who comprehends the thrill I get when I talk about walking through Spain. Almost all of them think I'm crazy and some have told me "it's a ridiculous way" to use my hard-earned time off from work. I feel otherwise. 68 days until I board the plane here in beautiful Utah (USA) and 71 days until my feet hit the trail!!! I am simply giddy and delirious with excitement and anticipation!!!!

Hold on to that excitement, the anticipation should change to satisfaction and inner peace. On the Caminos in Spain (or the Chemins France) you will quickly realize that you are not in Kansas anymore, oops Utah. The adrenalin of those first few days will give way to" OMG how can my feet hurt so much", or "it's a long long way yet to go". Keep those initial emotions alive and growing! Normal circle of friends? No such thing. Some would never dream of doing such a thing, some have never heard of such a thing, and others who have been will ask -with apologies to J. Hendrix - "Are you Experienced"? Tell all your Hispanic friends they know and they respect - The world quickly resolves into those who have the experience and those who remain clueless. You are about to undergo an encounter with Spain, with the Camino, and most importantly with yourself, an experience which will remain with you for the rest of your life so enjoy every minute from this present expectation, to the first blister, to that triumphant entry into Santiago!

Hi Shurolla! This was me 2 years ago!!! I was fizzing with excitement, couldn't sleep, already walking in my head. I know exactly how you feel and you can use some of that adrenaline to help carry you up that mountain!

I was lucky I have a son, Ben who walked 5 months before me that 'got' my craziness and let me talk about it all I wanted.

I'm getting much the same way. I have 56 days and counting. Shurolla I have hiked your beautiful southern Utah landscape, as well as much of the Four Corners area. Muley Point is indescribable. I wish you Buen Camino.

I get the "crazy" thing too. Second Camino starts in just over a month; going solo and more excited than first time around. Don't let the "normals" get you down - at 67 I am especially grateful to have such anticipation and adventure in my life and have stopped trying to get others to understand the why of it. Buen Camino Shurolla.

The Camino is a 500 mile long lunatic asylum. You have to be crazy to want to walk 500 or so miles in a foreign country carrying a pack on all terrains and in all weathers, of course you are crazy - but in a nice way.

And of course all the stay at homes cannot understand - that is why they stay at home or visit Disneyworld ...... be crazy Shurolla, you will have a fantastic time, the only downside being that your friends and family won't understand you when you are raving about your experience when you get home - answer to that is to be with like-minded crazy people and the only way to be sure of that is to go do another Camino

I am blessed to live in a beautiful part of the country. But really...it's ALL beautiful when I open my eyes to it! Moab (Arches) is on the docket again for the end of August. I love that place. Thanks for reminding me!

David! I have laughed over this! Thanks y0u! You're right...I AM crazy. They say the most crazy of us don't know it or question it...I guess I'm certifiable then! I WISH I were walking the full 500 miles. I'm starting in Villafranca del Bierzo and I am making it a priority to come back soon to do the whole thing. It will be amazing!!!

So good knowing that this is a worldwide feeling ! The madness and the friends/family who don´t share/understand it
I will be on the Camino Sept 6th, my first time and I decided not to talk about it anymore to those who don´t have the same feeling I have. Quite ok and happy ´cause I have so many others who are wishing me lucky and a Buen Camino. I live in Brazil so it will be a long long way to Spain. Your posts made me laugh and gave me peace. Hello Eloisa I am sure you have discovered as had I early on, that this forum is a gift to us all. I recently was introduced to woman who just returned from the Camino, so we are now hiking together. Guess what we talk about??? I start my walk from St. Jean on Sept 25. Maggie

I can absolutely relate! My sis and I will begin our on Sept 1. Oh the anticipation! Buen Camino!

Ha! Your friends think you are nuts now, just wait.
They'll believe you certifiable when you come back with an addiction to an activity and a country they don't understand.
Check the look on their faces when you say walking in the rain is no big deal. Or when you suggest a bocadilla and a caña for lunch. Or when you start talking about your next Camino.

Don't lose that excitement you feel now; keep it with you as long as you can.
And don't forget that your support group is right here in the forum.

My co-workers think I'm nuts and my husband is beside himself with worry...but I am so giddy and excited I cannot contain my joy!!! I look forward to it all: The good, the bad, the easy the hard.
