I am hoping to travel Camino de Frances in the second half of October next year. A friend has mentioned that some albergues may not still be open then.

Can anyone please confirm if there might be an issue accessing albergues at that time of the year? Will most shops still be open in the villages as well?

For more on walking the camino in autumn see this earlier forum thread filled with helpful links/tips including gear lists.

Do be aware that in recent years many albergues and some shops started to close mid October for a well-earned rest after the crowds of summer left; however hospitaleros usually know who/what is open on the next stage. Even in the true winter months I have never on the CF passed through a village where every place was closed and nothing, nada, was open. However the only shop in town might be on vacation so do be prepared.

Happy planning and Buen camino!

Thanks some great advice on there :)

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

I walked from Sept 24 through Oct 29 in 2015. I did not encounter a single closed albergue. That’s not to say there weren’t any, just not any I planned to stay at.

Gerard Kelly’s guide lists opening/closing months (if applicable) for all albergues, so that would help you plan your stages and accommodation.
