Toilet Paper

Yes, I know, leave no paper on the trail, but what about in the toilet. I have visited rural areas in Cuba where paper is disposed of in a bin due to sensitive plumbing. Would that hold true for the rural areas of the Camino?

I've been in those areas around the world and in the case mentioned above there were always disposal bins and also sometimes notices written in native and at least one foreign language. I haven't seen any of this on Camino Frances.

By no means don´t leave toilet paper in the toilet. Just flush it. It disappears just like magic.

Have heard that there may be an issue of no TP in the WC. Anybody have any experience on this? Should I plan to carry my own? Thanks!!

Now that problem does exist. Toilet paper does tend to "disappear" rather quickly.But there is an easy solution, just inform the person responsible to have it replaced or if that person has already left for the night, use your own roll. I always carry one just in case.

Spain is not like Mexico or Cuba, use the bathroom like you would in the US.
I carried a flat travel pack of Cottonelle flushable diaper wipes from Target, never had an issue with no tp in the albergues, finally used it at a porta potty on the way into Finsiterre.

My "toilet kit" consisted of a roll of TP (left over, from my home), a small bottle of hand sanitaizer, and about a half dozen sandwich bags for disposing if there was no bin around. Fortunately, I never had to use the full kit. On the Camino Frances, I found enough bars and restaurants available and took advantage of every one I came across, even if I had just used one an hour earlier. However, it did become a running joke for me that none of the WCs had toilet paper so I often used my own. All of the toilets were normal flushable ones. Not to worry.

This is a strange situation indeed, and no-one has completely answered the original question! When staying in a residential in Portugal, there was a notice in Portuguese and English - "Please - NO paper down the toilet." Now did that mean OTHER than toilet paper? Or ALL paper? That seemed so gross that I certainly flushed mine away!

This is common in many parts of the world: tweaky sewer lines that can't handle all the paper. If it says no paper in the loo, yes that includes toilet paper! Put it into the bin provided. You will get used to it.

Actually, my home, in the good old USofA has some of the aforementioned tweaky sewer lines so the bin disposal is part of my life. I asked because it is understood in Cuba not to flush and there are no signs. Just checking with the rural parts of Spain. Thanks for all of the input.
