Walking with a group

Time of past OR future Camino
2018,2029,2022,2023
Hi Pilgrims

I have been chatting with a local charity here in Northern Ireland . A group of 15 to 20 adults are considering walking a 100k Camino in the spring of 2024.While i have experience of planning, booking and walking several Camino both the CF and CP I have never planned or booked accomodation for a group of this size . It will be a mixed ability group who would need to book ahead ,maybe a mixture of Dorms and private rooms .They are considering Sarria to SDC or Tui or Aguarda to SDG. Has anyone any advice or suggestions about the best way of going about booking albergues in advance for a group this size , money is tight ? Help please. jim

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
I book for groups of 8 and I'm telling you if you want to book for that many people you need to start at least a year ahead of time in my opinion. I would use gronze.com and booking.com and get on it now. I have had trouble just getting 8 beds in the same place at times. Municipals used to NOT take reservations but I hear that's changing so I'd start with Gronze.com and work from there.

I personally think that would be too large of a group to manage. I would suggest two different trips with a maximum of 10 people (including the leader).
I just got off of the Camino and I did see a group of 13 South Koreans plus one Spanish guide. They did seem to do quite well, but again they had a Spanish guide that stayed with them all day long.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Spanish parish groups, school parties and other semi-organized mobs seem to manage Sarria to Santiago with ease. There is either an extremely effective underground that accommodates them with typical Spanish discretion or an entirely overt infrastructure that copes.

For a mob such as you’re proposing I think my first port of call would be Tourismo Galicia. After all it’s their Camino

Consider booking actual apartments if you have a group that size. They can end up cheaper even than albergues, and it’s easy to do laundry there, etc.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc

Anne Marie . Thanks for the advice the group have asked me to look into using apartments have you any suggestions where I would be able to see what is available . Thanks Jim

I had a quick look at booking.com for mid-May in the section from Sarria to SDC based on needing three rooms. There appear to be quite a few places that offer apartments that might accommodate such a group, but there wasn't anything that did this in less than two apartments. Some would only work if there was at least one couple in the group willing to share a double bed!

There would also be the option of splitting the group over more than one property. I didn't check whether there was better availability by adjusting the timing, nor did I look at whether staying in one place for a couple of nights was going to be possible.

They show up on Booking. Probably other places, too, but Booking might be easiest.
