What do you wear at night?

This may be a silly question but I havent seen anyone post about it before, but what do Pilgrims wear at night, for bed? Men and women? Do people take night clothes or just sleep in tomorrows clothes? What is the correct etiquette for communal sleeping? I've not done anything like this before!

I hate sleeping in my clothes so, yes, I take something specifically for sleeping. Current sleep gear is a navy merino singlet and a pair of black boxer shorts. Hopefully reasonably modest, but comfortable.

Don't stress about it - you'll be amazed at how easy it is. After a few nights you will find it very ordinary to share a dorm. And you will become an expert in getting changed without showing too much flesh!

In the albergues you can wear a light sleepingdress and the men a T shirt as we did.

Or your wollen/warm tights and a top, like I do. The tights are great under your trousers if it gets cold or on their own while your trousers dry, so I always bring them anyway. Makes sense to sleep in them.

When sleeping on VERY cold late autumn/winter nights clad in a long sleeve thermal shirt plus leggings while wearing loose socks and a wooly hat the over all effect is akin to Goldylocks grandma!

On my first camino I took a ‘dedicated’ little lightweight minidress-thingy to wear but now I make double use of my ‘Friday clothes’. This is the name I give the comfy tops I wear after walking each day. Usually a light/loose silk or cotton blouse. Easy to wash, light to pack and layer-able with merinos under or over should it get cold. Like Kanga, I wear briefs under - ready to pull your walking pants over in the morning.

I walked last year, Sept/Oct and wore an ultrasilver, very light Tee shirt and briefs for the first 3 weeks (washing them from time to time) then I wore merino Longjohns and long sleeved top and a gillet and a fleece and socks, in my sleeping bag with Alburgue blankets!

I have a huge silk scarf (belly dancing vail) that I wrap my self in. It weighs noting dries in minutes as function as a scarf if chilly or sun protection if that is needed.

A t-shirt (either short or long-sleeved depending on the temperature) and Rohan ultra silver leggings. A couple of times I got chilly (September/October) and put my lightweight fleece on too - I wasn't using a sleeping bag just my silk sleeping bag liner. I only used my 1-2 season sleeping bag twice and then was too hot. My friend always laughed at me because I wore my bra to sleep in as well but I said I couldn't possibly be without in a public place hahaha!

So please don't be alarmed.
Europeans aren't as shocked by the human body as we puritan Americans are , so it's common to see men running around in their speedos, etc.
Frankly, most people are too tired to care about anything you're wearing.
They want their shower and some sleep.
I wouldn't take anything special.
I wear either my longjohns, my underwear, or my clothes, depending on the temperature.

Thank you everyone for replying, its given me some clues about what to take and wear. Just plain pyjama shorts for me and husband, and any clean top we happen to have. i'm not particularly worried about this, just dont want to upset anyone else.

Whatever you plan to wear while sleeping, test it inside your sleeping bag to make sure you can move around as you like. With some fabrics, the friction can be very annoying.

In May this year I decided to save on weight by not taking sleeping gear. The first night in Oviedo in just a T-shirt, I found it quite hard to get to sleep at all. Next day the first thing I did was to go and buy a proper sleep-T like I wear at home. So, test out your decision first!

.... I suffer from 'hot feet syndrome' and have to put my feet outside the sleeping bag or liner. I simply tore my liner all down one side so I could do that! As for what you wear ... no-one will notice, as long as you wear SOMETHING.

Me, too. But remember that can be a lure for bedbugs!

I have shorts with a pocket for my very small flashlight and a synthetic t-shirt. The outfit doubles for actual clothing when everything goes into a washing machine.
