- Time of past OR future Camino
- 2025 Via Francigena - Lucca to Rome
I arrive in Paris CDG airport on Saturday April 19th 2014 at 8:30 in the morning. If possible I would like to get to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port that same day. I have read a number of posts on how to get to SJPP however my question is what is realistic in terms of timing based on your experience.
Option 1
TGV leaving CDG at 10:16 connecting in Bordeaux and arriving at Bayonne at 17:32. Train to SJPP leaves Bayonne at 18:06 arriving in SJPP at 19:31. Do I have enough time in CDG to make the connection?
Option 2
TGV leaving Paris Monparnasse train station at 10:46 connecting in Bordeaux with same last two trains as Option 1. This option is $100 Cdn less cost to get from CDG to Paris Monparnasse. Same question about having enough time.
Option 3 - John Candy's Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
TGV to Paris Orly airport to catch either 11:20 flight to Biarritz (arrive 12:35) or 14:35 flight to Biarritz (arrive 15:30). Taxi to Bayonne and catch either 14:55 train to SJPP (first flight) or 18:06 train as in options 1 and 2. This is the most expensive option...likely $50 to $75 Cdn due to some shared costs.
Your thoughts on timing and whether going by plane or train is best at the start of the Camino. What parts would you book ahead if any? Note my train times are based on April 5th as the SNFC site only allows for 90 days in advance.
Many thanks
Guy
