Starting Via de la Plata 8 September. Anything I should be concerned with?

I plan to commence the DdlP 8 September if I can drag myself away from the bars of Seville. Is there anything I need to be concerned with?

Cheers

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Not really, there are a few stretches where you need to decide to do either very long or very short stages and a couple where you can only do very long stretches. Depending on how much rain there was river/stream crossings might be also an adventure ;-) The most updated guide I know of is this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/1533170541/?tag=casaivar02-20 Apart of that - enjoy vino y tapas y Buen Camino, SY

PS Don't miss out to eat at Me Gusta Comer in Rionegro - Michelin-class cuisine at pilgrim menu prices and really, really friendly hospitality. Say hello to Teo from me ;-)

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
It is really good! The author send me a PDF version, just before publishing, as we were on the Via roughly at the same time for feedback and I really liked it! Buen Camino, SY

Hi, Sybil,

Does the guidebook contains Via Augusta as well?

BTW @brian560 if you'll decide to walk VdlP to Astorga then you'll miss Me Gusta Comer in Rionegro because it is on Camino Sanabres (turn off left NW approx.2 days after Zamora). Anyway Ultreia!

I went the Astorga route earlier this year so I will be at Me Gusto Comer with napkin already attached. I'm a bit worried about whether I will need a sleeping bag once I get into Galicia mid late October, any thoughts?

I haven't been to Galicia that late so I can't really answer your question. But I've taken my sleeping bag (250g) with me on all my Caminos. Useful to just put it beneath you or as a light blanket. Sometimes didn't use it for days and sometimes on less walked Caminos (which VdlP isn't as you already know) it was kind of neccessary.

Ultreia!

I started the VDLP in reverse from Astorga in October and the weather was brutal. I got blown off the trail by rain blowing sideways into my face by Salamanca. My point is that the weather could get hairy. You'll (obviously) be traveling north going into winter. Something you might want to keep in mind.

We left just about the same day as you but a year earlier. It was hot early on. But by October 2 in Mombuey my friend and I both made it a very high priority to get knit caps and gloves for the cold mornings.

During a number of stretches there are few or no watering spots. Some days you will need to carry 2 litres.

In Santa Croya de Tera consider paying a couple Euros extra to stay and eat at Casa Anita. Very friendly, good food, nice garden, very clean, and WiFi.

¡Buen Camino!
