Time of past OR future Camino
May 2024
Just started watching this series this morning. It's the story of three vastly different people with different motivations doing Camino Frances. I've already cried once - the character development, so far, is strong. It's interesting because it's set in the 90s and the external backpack frames and jean jackets and lack of ultralight tech makes for great imagery. So far, I would recommend this show. Buen Camino.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
Watched the series last year. Agree it is a dramatic series and I also enjoyed it. Not everyone's taste though, I'm sure. It is not a documentary, but a fictional series.

They do move forward in time a bit (not to be a spoiler or anything...)

I watched it last year and just finished watching it today. I’ve also watched “The Way” over the weekend. They’re all tear-inducing at different points, and I’m sure I’ll be watching again before my Camino.

I think the key messaging (to me) is that the Camino provides, you can have your plans but the Camino has plans for you and that at some point you have to let go and just go with it.

I watched and enjoyed both 3 Caminos and The Way. But, myself, this is one area where I find reality more engaging than fiction. That's why I enjoy the videos (long form movies and daily vlogs) that people share on YouTube. To be sure, the production values and narrative quality can vary wildly. But the best of them certainly seem to meet the bar set by the big budget movies and series.

I've started keeping a list. Some of my favourites are at the top of each section. I have to go back and update it, though.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-
Yes, we have a "movie" section in our watching profile and some are more documentary and others are more fiction. I think there are like 10 or 12 different Camino movies/films we have saved.

An aside, but I also really liked the El Cid series that is available on Prime here in the US. Waiting for them to make season 3 (if that ever happens...) I went on an El Cid kick there for a while and watched and read all kinds of fiction and non-fiction stuff. This was right after we were hospitaleros in Zamora and there was the "El Cid" house nearby where he supposedly spent some of his formative years and the church outside of the walls with a connection to him and of course the whole sad business of his King Sancho being killed there during a seige by an assasin.

I think of him every time I enter Burgos, and his enemies whenever I pass through Carrion de los Condes.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I watched 3 caminos last year and The Way over and over.

But, as David Tallan said the YT videos are really fine. I especially like pilgrims who post in real time whether slickly edited or barely. Gives a feeling of being out on camino.

I’ll Push You documentary about two life-long friends, one of whom is wheelchair bound, is also worth a view.

Indeed, YT videos offer a really unique point of view. I love those where we can hear the steps along the way. I watched a 34 minutes one today that shows the Camino Portugues from Tui to Santiago de Compostela, and that helped me visualize my future path in a way that makes me want to start my Camino tomorrow - I wish I could!

Thanks for this comprehensive list, David, so nice that you screened so many videos and organized them for us. I'll be binge watching!

Thanks for sharing your list David. As a result of a couple of camino accidents my left hip was severely damaged; the arthritic pain limited how far I could walk. So I walked across Spain with Drew, Jamie, Angela, Efren and Linsday. Then in 2019, with a new hip, I went back and this time successfully walked from SJPP to SdeC. Now I just watch all these wonderful vlogs and movies because I'm probably a bit addicted to the Camino.

We returned from our Camino last week and just watched “Tracks” on Amazon Prime US. It’s the story of a woman who walked across Australia in the 1970s. It was quite compelling. I really appreciated the ending statement which felt relatable to the Camino.
I watched "Tracks" yesterday and really enjoyed it. Thanks for suggesting it or I possibly would never have noticed it available on Amazon Prime.
