Hi all, as veteran pilgrims will probably know EU funding was provided to Spain to import and plant 1,000 hectares of spaghetti trees (Spaghetti Aprilis fatuus Arbor) the year before the lockdown. They grew well but the drought last year meant no crop.
However, with this mild winter and wet spring the growers are predicting a bumper crop later in the year.

You will walk through the main plantation just after leaving Astorga on the rising ground up to Rabanal. (Please don't pick any).

This video is a little old now as harvest documentaries are rare for some reason but shows the spaghetti harvest next to the Italian border in Switzerland. As an aside, with global warming and our (English) climate warming up, we are also hoping to be able to plant productive plantations - English pasta! Wonderful.

Back when Cliff Michelmore had more authority than St David (Attenborough) reporting on the spaghetti crop was as important and as crucial as the colour of the Prince of Whales socks. In these more enlightened times the essential question is “tinned tuna in a pasta puttanesca. Que?”

the nice thing about that pasta is it's gluten-free so I can have some too.

The beautiful yellow flowers when the tree is in bloom makes me wonder why we don't eat saffron spaghetti!

I suppose SOMEONE had to be the first one off-the-mark with an April Fools prank.

God on you! WHo would have thunk it - harvesting spaghetti?

I was lucky to get a Spring Harvest off my Spaghetti / Cherry / Lemon / Watermelon / Orange / Blueberry / Eggplant Trees. Here is a fresh plate, right off the tree...

The tough part is separating the different colours.

In other news, the good folks at the Santiago compostella office have approved counting the 22km aross the English channel that peregrinos swim toward a compostela. But you cannot do so with fins and you must have a pack with a shell on your back. Tough, but doable

In the Cotswolds spaghetti won't grow, and the Tories wouldn't allow it anyway. We can have vermicelli but it has to be organic, and only grown by the King at his Highgrove residence, hand strung by his own personal golden spiders. Costs a fortune at his shop in Tetbury high street.

Have you tried the fettucine bushes mentioned by forgotten who!?
We are coming up against the April 1 time limits on the European continent….

Truly amazing Dave! We were seeing them everywhere as we walked through there yesterday as the forming strands were waving in the cold wind. As Aussies, we have heard all about spaghetti trees.... A very "special" plant indeed!
