Finding the way from Najera to San Millan de la Cogolla

Hello,

We will be walking the camino in October and are going to take a detour and walk from Najera to San Millan de la Cogolla, sleep in San Millan then walk on to Santo Domingo de la Calzada, maybe via Canas. I was wondering if the path is easy to find and if anybody had any indications on how to find the right way. Or any link to a useful map to buy.

Thank you. I was looking for something a bit more precise than Google map as it suggests several ways and maybe one is nicer than the others. The thread is great thanks.

The current (2015) edition of the John Brierley guide to the Camino Frances has a couple of pages dedicated to this detour. The maps aren't very precise but show the recommended route and stops along the way.

Also, my son reminded me I could use ViewRanger. It's brilliant. You can download maps and create walking your route then just follow it when you're there.

Hi there Marie,
I was wondering, if you did get to walk from Nájera til San Millán. Excited to hear about it, and if you'd like to share your experiences. Planning to walk it myself. Checked it out on maps.google, and I'm really curious about the possibility to walk along the cliffs and Río Najerilla the first part - the west side of the river. And I've seen Cordovin suggested as part of the journey. To me, that seems to be a detour. Why not follow Río Cárdenas through Badarán? There seem to be nice gravel trails. And other tips and tricks would be nice.

The first trail I linked to In that message does go through Cañas. I haven’t walked these and my geography is a little weak since I haven’t been on the Francés in years, but if these are not the routes you want, you will definitely find it in wikiloc.
