Finally after Many years of hearing about The Way I am on my way to SJPd on October 6! I'm a solo traveler and really don't want to be all alone all the time. Are there any statistics on how many pilgrims are walking in October an November ? I would appreciate any info. I only see a few listed here in the forum. Thanks so much!

Just the right number! You are going at a perfect time.

You can find statistics at this site, in Spanish. Last year in November, 5229 pilgrims registered at the pilgrim office in Santiago. Of those, 1386 began in SJPP, so that is an average of 46 people per day. When I was there in mid-October, I think there were about 80 people in the albergue in Roncesvalles.

There are enough people that you can have company if you want, but few enough that you can also avoid it. If you want company, just be sure to leave the albergue at the same time as most other people. If you want to be alone, linger a little longer.

I'll be starting from St Jean on October 8th. Maybe we'll meet along The Way. Tall with dark hair and red pack with Canadian Flag on it.

My walking partner and I are starting from St. Jean on the 6th. Hopefully we will meet and say hello. I'm easy to recognize, old guy (72) with a large blue Osprey pack and an American flag.

I'll be just past Leon somewhere first week of November. Last year I walked early November and it was really nice. Always some pilgrims around. And some albergues and bars had nice welcoming fires.
