Place to stay in SJPP checking in around 10pm

Time of past OR future Camino
St Francis May-June (2019)
Dear friends, God willing I'll be flying into Biarritz at 9.05pm on 8 May (on the Ryanair flight from Stansted). That means I'll be arriving in SJPP sometime around 10pm. After reading the recommendations on this forum, I had my heart set on starting at Beilari, but it looks like they are not taking pilgrims arriving after 7.30pm. May I ask then, for recommendations, please, for places who take in late arriving souls. Ta.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Anglet airport serves both Biarritz and Bayonne.
For ease of getting to Saint Jean Pied de Port it might be best to spend the night in Bayonne and travel to SJPdP the next morning.

In Bayonne the simple
Hotel Monte Carlo is good inexpensive choice located opposite the rr station. Nice cafe and resto also. Here is their web .

From Biarritz airport (Anglet) take a Chronopost bus 14 to the BAYONNE rr station (Gare SNCF).
Travel time is roughly 30 minutes.

At Bayonne station next morning take a regional TER line 62 train to SJPdP.

Generally there are several TER line 62 trains from Bayonne to SJPdP each day.

Bon voyage and Buen camino!

Beilari is nice because of the shared pilgrim dinner; showing up at 10pm would mean you’d miss that and simply have the “joy” of sleeping in a standard pilgrim accommodation (after angering all the sleeping pilgrims by unpacking in the dark!)

Do yourself a favor: stay in Bayonne and enjoy an early arrival the next day in SJPdP and THEN you can enjoy a stay at Beilari.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
For the cost of finding accommodation etc in Bayonne you could simply book a private room in Saint Jean and check in late, relax and sleep off the travel lag etc in peace without having to be concerned about disturbing pilgrims in the albergue, or dealing with getting proper sleep with pilgrims in the albergue.
Just look on booking.com or similar and find somewhere with private rooms you like.

Welcome to the forum @Oldzgit

How are you getting form Biarritz to SJPdP? even by taxi I would say from landing to Saint Jean in an hour is very optimistic. Immigration, even for EU nationals (which if you're British you may not be by then) can be slow at Biarritz and the road isn't exactly fast. If you have the time I would certainly agree with others' suggestion to rather stay in Bayonne for the night and then enjoy the next day taking the train through lovely countryside to Saint Jean, exploring the town, visiting the pilgrim office and enjoying a communal meal before setting off well rested the next day.

Assuming you're going all the way to Santiago walking just one extra kilometre each day would make up for your lost time and more.

Buen Camino,

Rob.

Thanks. I am a Brit, but I'll have been travelling from Singapore. I think the advice to bed down in Bayonne and enjoy time in Saint Jean as you say is the best. Much appreciated.
