Day 5 on the Camino. Triacastela was gorgeous though the gravel road was too rough so I wore my minimalist shoes. Met another barefoot pilgrim Andrea from Italy. I´m loving the journey. Feet are holding up. My big toe on my right foot is cracked and slightly inflammed. Yesterday I started to favour it and pulled a small muscle in my ankle. Can still walk okay after I bandaged my toe. The soles of my feet are very tough, leatherlike now. This morning as it turned out I had to take a pilgrim to the hospital. Great how the Camino gives me rest when I need it. The people at the hospital didn´t care whether I had shoes or not, though they asked to see my feet. Walking around the city of Sarria barefoot is great. Staying at the Monestario de Magdelena...fantastic. Clean and huge. I highly recommend it. Gorgeous weather and sunny so far.

Sue, lovely to hear about the progress! Also happy to read the people in the hospital took an interest in you.
Keep going.

Sue, I remember that gravel, rocky road from Cebreiro to Triacastela - really challenging. I think you are doing an amazing job of your first barefoot Camino. Look after that toe! Hugs, Sil

Thanks. I´m getting stronger each day. Today from Sarria, stayed at the Monastery de Magdalena and it was amazing, we wañled through the Galician forest. Mud, sand, grass and little gravel. Felt free and happy. Many pilgrims interested in what I´m doing. One lady blessed herself when she saw me. A French man who had walked from Mont St. Michel took my pic and then kissed me on both cheeks. Ah the benefits of being unshodded. My feet are in amazing shape. No problems today at all. Getting stronger by the day. Love the mud. Not so much the cow dung. Have to keep my eyes open for it. Only a couple of thorns today. Love the Camino, again and again. Met a lady who cried in front of me. She asked me how she could possibly take the journey back home. I told her what I know to be true for me
about how to integrate the journey back home. I suggested she embody the Camino. Take it in at a cellular level and each time she wants to experience it, just put her feet on the ground and close her eyes, it will be there. The Camino is with us forever...some of us.
I love the Camino.

Around pole 101km: can be challenging: many rocks on the way.

Suggesting go for the sheep dung as a preference, got lanoline in it with a bit of luck,
my dog loves rolling in it  & few streams to cool feet in!

Sounds great, gosh you'll be there today tomorrow :D
