Frances w/2 Daughters (Sept 22 - Oct 20)
Hi All!

Our family just got back from walking the Camino Frances from St Jean to Fisterra (29 days). I know how much I like looking at other's pictures so I thought I would share if anyone is interested. It was an amazing trip and I'm so glad I got to do it with my girls (my second time - their first).

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Stunning pictures. I’ve shared the album with a family who has asked us to walk with them next year.
@vegoodrich I also ask how old your girls are.

Hi Everyone! Thanks for the kind words, I enjoy photography a lot and I made a commitment to only use my 'real' camera, no iPhone and social media this time. I'm so glad I did.

The girls are just 12 & 14 (actually the elder will turn 14 in one week but close enough). They have been hiking with us since they were little and didn't have any big problems with the daily effort of the Camino. They were in charge of their own gear and how far we walked everyday. They went through the normal 'last 30 min of the day - blah' moments as all of us do but overall had a really great time. The fires were a bit nerve racking in October and a bit close for comfort on two different nights but we managed just fine. I wasn't expecting us to have time to walk to Fisterra but we had more than enough and they would not think of anything but doing that last part.

They had studied Spanish for the year before we went and as a result really seemed to have positive interactions from so many of the locals. There are not many kids on the camino and they often walked out of supermarkets or bars with extra 'treats' of various types :)

If anyone is considering doing this with kids feel free to ask any questions. I'd be happy to answer based on our experience.

Buen Camino!

Oh yeah, forgot to say that they already want to go back...especially because dad only got to spend the first week with us ;)

Thanks for the photos. Looking at the dates you travelled, you had to have passed me along the way. Then looking more closely at the pictures, we crossed paths in Granon. We stayed at the alburgue at the church of San Juan Bautista. (The mats on the floor in the loft) You were the ones who had checked in ahead of me. I was the tall guy from NYC. Looks like you completed the camino in record time! I attached a photo to "prove" I was there. Once again thanks for the photos.

Buen Camino

Lovely family and photos. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, they always seem to have treats that magically appear when there are kids - in Spain.
I did not expect the fishmonger in a village in the Catalonian Pyrenees to have chocolates and a lollipop for my 3-year old son. Wonderful people :):)

Hi Mark! That was a great night!! Glad that you had a fun rest of the journey. Love the picture, especially because it has a few pilgrims in it that’s we walked with off and on for 2 weeks!!!

Great photos with a real camera. It definitely made a big difference in the results. I hope it's not too heavy though.

I recognize that team! Charge those Kindles!

One of the highlights for me was coming across you guys. Thanks for the photo post.

Hola Maine!!!!! I'm so glad that you had a wonderful camino. I want to echo what you said as my girls so appreciated the short time with you in Granon, they wished that we had overlapped more days!!

Wow! 29 days is impressive! Love that you did the Camino with the whole family. And those photos are really nice. Also your girls are lovely. I’m planning to be there on June 2018, but I’m worry it’ll be very crowded during June to July. How was your Camino in October?

October this year was COLD mornings and VERY WARM-DRY afternoons for most of the journey (with the exception of our last 3 days from Santiago to Fisterra where we actually saw some rain!). It was an unusual year though for Spain. It never got to the point of really being too hot except for one afternoon where everyone stopped by 2. That day I hand washed my clothes and they were dry on the line in about 30 minutes, yikes!

I've gone in October both times and I think the weather is perfect for walking and it never seemed to be too crowded to me.
