Sleeping bag or Sleeping bag liner

I have an Alpkit sleeping bag which packs super small and is light, https://alpkit.com/products/cloud-nine?variant=33021527752809 which I was intending taking, however I am wondering if as I will be travelling in June a just a sleeping bag liner will be enough.
Also I am concerned about bed bugs, so I am intending treating with permethrin, but an advantage of a bag liner would be it would be easy to wash at the end, whereas having a down bag cleaned is more expensive.
I do not think a cotton bag liner would be much if any lighter than my sleeping bag.
Starting from St. Jean Pied-du-Port early June.

Also, your bag weighs 800gms, surely a liner would be a quarter of that? No washing when you get home either, you could donate it to your last refugio - they are cheap enough.

Early June? It’s marginal. I’d pack the sleeping bag. It’s going to be a 1 season one at that weight. (Edit: I just looked and they claim three season. It isn’t. I like Alpkit, but they’re pushing it with that spec.)

When you’re finished just tumble-dry it on a hot setting until you get bored or the electricity bill arrives.

July and August certainly a liner will do.

Just checked and a Cotton bag liner weighs 500g. I suspect I would be warm enough in just a bag liner in June.

Slightly differs opinion here, and my sleeping bag packs as small as the liner, only 300g difference, and as you say I can just tumble dry it to kill any bed bugs. I could do that in Santiago before flying back, chuck everything including my back pack in the machine, and give it the treatment

We stopped carrying sleeping bags after our first Frances. Since then we've used Sea to Summit Reactor Extreme liner. It weights .36 kilogram, so much lighter than a sleeping bag AND it takes up very little space in the backpack.

In times where it was cold in the night, we'd either use a albergue provided blanket (checking for bedbugs, smells, or other), and if one was not available, we simply used our lightweight jackets. However, this happened only a few times. A room full of sleeping pilgrims can create a lot of heat!

One of my favorite YouTubers (Homemade Wanderlust - a backpacking content creator) said one of her biggest regrets of things she brought on the Camino was her down jacket and bag because she could not put in in the dryer. She and her sister picked up bed bugs on their Camino.
No expert here, because I haven't done my Camino yet (CF- July start) but won't it be too hot for a sleeping bag in June?
I'm bringing at cotton travel sheet instead. (It's 1.5 lbs) I ordered and will be returning a superlight silk one that was just TOO ultralight. Would be like sleeping with nothing. I know my travel sheet is a bit heavier, but I wanted a little something to cover me. A little bit of weight on my body. There are synthetic travel sheets/bag liners that are probably lighter but I personally don't like sleeping in synthetic fabric.

I have put my small down blanket in the dryer with no ill effects. The key is to put it in dry - do not wash it first. I do the same with my merino wool clothing too.

It is important that it is high heat for at least 30 minutes. Most down can't handle that. Your blanket is awesome!
And to treat for bed bugs, you should put it in the dryer dry. So definitely key.

There are no guarantees a camino in June is going to be warm all of the time, similarly, there are no guarantees Albergues will have blankets if you need them, or if they do that they will be useable/agreeable.

It is important that it is high heat for at least 30 minutes. Most down can't handle that.

55°C or 130°F is not a super hot temperature, but the bugs need to be exposed at that temperature for 30 minutes. If you put DRY items into the dryer at a normal hot setting, you know that they'll reach that temp and you know the time. If you put wet things in, you'll have to allow for them to dry before they'll get to the necessary temperature. The wetting and agitation of the wet down is what causes most damage. My down items have survived quite well, but for bedbug treatment, don't wash first.

If you suspect bedbugs you should give the item the heat treatment dry (30 mins+ at 55ºC+), then wash it. You can wash down items (and I have), but you have to do it carefully i.e. get the proper specialised detergent and wash on gentle. You should dry it flat after that, but tumble dry on gentle is fine - the trick is to chuck a couple of tennis balls in with it so that it lufts up. As for whether you need a sleeping bag in June, you would probably get away with it but some nights a sleeping bag will give you comfort. For the camino in May to June, I´ll be taking a light down quilt (probably similar to your bag) and a silk liner.

Yes, this is a wonderful place with a backyard garden. In all my visits to Santiago, it has never been available, seems they are taking in and doing commercial laundry frequently. Not to worry, there are other places nearby. Just google “lavandería autoservicio” near me.

I always take a bag. Also there is special soap for down bags,wash in bath tub,and dry in dryer on low heat. Came out perfect!

If you already own this bag use it. At 800g it is just a tad heavy. I've walked two Caminos, Sep/Oct and Apr/May, SJPDP to Santiago and didn't always need my sleeping bag but on many nights glad I had it. Funny thing, in all the nights in alburges, every bunk had a sleeping bag.

I walked May 18 to June 28 last year. Bought a light weight sleeping bag last year for my walk but left it at home and just used a silk liner. Was fine with that. Leaving a week earlier May 12 this year and going with just the liner again. Just pretty well depends on the weather and how cold it gets. Left my puffy jacket at home also. Had a light fleece pullover and wore that if chilly at night or walking early morning. it was pretty warm the last couple weeks of June.

Definitely a silk liner is the way to go in June. If u have a chilly night here or there sleep in your clothes.

If you stay in a monetary you may want a sleeping bag. Those old stone buildings do not warm up. After my bed bug experiences i would be careful of using the blankets the albergues supply. They are rarely washed and some are full of bed bugs and their eggs. While 30 minutes at 55 degrees may kill the bed bugs, i would dry them for a full hour. That would ensure the bed bugs are killed trapped in layers that take a while to heat up. Do not take your stuff home without drying. You do not want to bring these little visitors home with you.
I wish i were back on the trail, it was a wonderful experience.
