Can I expect to obtain a cellular signal on the Via de la Plata between Seville and Caceres? Not just in towns and villages, but along the trail?

I'm planning to walk from Seville to Caceres in March 2020. I'm 72 and will be walking solo. Emergency communications are part of my planning.

The European emergency number 112 works even when you have no apparent network connection provided your 'phone is charged.

That said mobile network coverage is fairly comprehensive throughout Spain. Try to avoid having an emergency in a deep gulley in high mountains ;)

Never had a problem of having a signal on the Plata!

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Better than that, try not to have an emergency.....at all!!

We should be on the VdlP from mid March starting in Seville. Maybe see you along the way somewhere.

Movistar has the best coverage although appalling service. Coverage tends to be reasonable whenever I have pulled my phone out.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I had a Vodafone simcard and rarely had no signal. I also managed to get a fantastic deal of 8GB for EUR15 as a new customer!
Cannot remember any albergues that didn't have wifi either!

I've only just walked Seville to Monesterio so far, but it passes through some quite uninhabited parts. There was signal most of the time - at least some. And as someone else said, even if your network has no coverage, dialling the emergency number can access any network.

The bigger problems are a few roaming feral dogs and, when it's been raining, the fords which become like rivers.

How did you stay safe from the feral dogs? Did you?
