Am wondering if I need to bring a EF and both C adaptors (4.0mm and 4.8mm) on my Camino Frances in order to recharge my phone and battery backup.

All that you need is a plug adapter.

I recommend that you tape it to your charger so that you don't accidentally leave it in an outlet in an albergue.

I prefer to use a dual USB charger with a European plug.

Thank you for this. The dual USB charges with the C plug makes a lot of sense. Assume I’ll be able to find it on Amazon if not a Canadian shop.

Don’t get one that is to big like I did. I got one that would take up both outlets when plugged in. It had multiple ports but it was not a good choice for me.

I have C adaptors with slightly different diameter pins (I was surprised when I learned that they came, or used to come, in different sizes). But I have used both of them in outlets in Spain - the bigger pins just required a little more pushing.
good to know. Thanks.

You could probably buy a European phone charger at the airport, an electrical store in your own country or if not, any corner shop in Spain (if your Spanish is not great, just show them the cable, they will very quickly figure out what you want). That might be a better option than an adapter. And if you happen to lose your adapter, you can buy a charger locally anyway.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

I bought a RavPower USB charger on Amazon.ca. It has 4 USB outlets and the cord is removable. I then ordered a European cord from an electrical supply company that has the correct plug for Spain. Once you get to Europe you just switch cords. This is nice because it doesn’t interfere with the other outlets and you can also offer a charging port to other Pilgrims in need!!

That seems like a lot of extra weight to carry when all you need is a European plug charging block or a plug adapter.

Guides that will let you complete the journey your way.

Also, many people are now carrying multiple devices that need charging. Phone, tablet, watch etc. Multiple USB outlets can be very useful.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I typically use an iPhone (lightning) and power bank (micro USB). I bought a couple of tiny ‘lightning to micro usb’ adapters which allows me to take only one cable.

(Actually I have a 2m cable and a spare 15cm cable; but still I convince myself I’ve saved a little weight)

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

If you do go with an adapter you should tape it and the charger together. Otherwise it is really easy to pack up the charger and forget to pull the adapter out of the socket too.
Or have someone accidentally take your one and leave their cracked and intermittently working one.
