Colours ... and bugs?

Hi, this is possibly a very silly question, but I was told that insects prefer some colours to others and are more likely to be attracted to them ... like green. My backpack and new silk liner are both a very happy and bright green, and I noticed that there were loads of little insects on the liner when I hung it out to dry after a wash. I never noticed anything like it with my red one, which got me thinking ... is it just a rumour or has anyone had any experience, good or bad, with bugs and colours? Should I bring the red liner instead? Sorry if it's just too silly!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
It is not a silly question at all... it is a scientific fact that mosquitos, for instance, will attack dark colors more than light.

I'm not sure about bedbugs though...methinks you'd better consider taking the bug sprayed tyvek that Portia suggests... that's the cheapest, best solution I've heard yet, except for mine, which is to spray each bed before you sleep on it.

Thanks, Annie! So if mozzies go for dark colours, my light green would be better! I'll bring a bugsheet just in case, and hope the other insects find something else to land on - I really didn't like the amount of insects on my bag when it was hanging out to dry. Might hang the two next to each other now as a semi scientific experiment ...
