HI,
I love knowing about alternate routes which steer you away from factory and industrial areas. I have one already which is great to get into Burgos. I am walking to Burgos from St Jean in September. I have done this route before , and I don't remember too many industrial road walking. I was on the Portuguese Camino last September and the alternate routes that I walked then were great. hearing the tales from other pilgrims who walked the original route I was happy I found out about the different way.
So if any one has any knowledge I would greatly appreciate.
Cheers ... Denise

Check out the Miam Miam Dodo guide book for an alternative route from Santo Domingo to Bellorado after you leave Viloria -the guide is in French but the alternative route (no signs) is well indicated on the map. This allows you to avoid a long day walking along the hard path beside the busy highway , I did it in April and was the only pilgrim on that trail but it is lovely. You must keep the wood on your left after you walk out of SAN Pedro. My host at Casa Waslala in (great place to stay) in Belorado had told me about it in advance and also gave me some helpful instructions. There is no phone signal around there so don’t get lost.

Just saw this, and am wondering if you, in fact, took the alternative route as mentioned in Miam Mian Dodo? How was it, longer, easy to follow, on back roads or path? etc...
Thanks! Hope it was a Buen Camino!

My suggestions: Walking into Pamplona, about the point there are some silver disks marking the path, there is another wooden walkway going left. Follow the walkway to a lovely walk into town along the river. (When it ends, just follow the walls around to the right until you find a road going into the old city.

Just after the wine fountain, the alternative path that goes to the left (skipping Mojardin). I've never taken it, but my wife did on our second CF and raves about it to this day. Apparently very green and pretty, and great views of the castle on Mojardin.

The river path to Burgos that you mentioned.

The Roman road outside of Sahagun to Mules. Can be hot and dry, but we prefer it to walking by the paved road.

The High Route after Villafrance de Bierrzo (sic). (I've never tried the Dragon route, and doubt I ever will because my wife simply loves the chestnut trees on the High Route so much).

The side path to Samos.

Buen Camino,
Jo Jo

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Agree with most of this except after Villafranca (I do not like ups...)

Regarding the river walk into Burgos: Can be difficult to spot, but: After you pass a brigde over a highway, go left along the airport. It is easy to see: You will walk towards a cluster of new houses/apartment; Do NOT pass them.

When you come to the first village after the airport, CROSS the road and follow signs for the river route. Do NOT turn right and follow the road!

And definitely walk in the Samos direction after/outside Triacastela: Highly recommended!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.
