Where to stay in Viana?

I am looking for a place to stay in Viana. I have checked the forum, but the posts were from a few years ago. Anything from the municipal albergue to a private room will work for me. I walked through Viana 2 years ago, and I would like to find a nice play to stay. Any suggestions would help! Thanks!!

Luckily the old 3 tier troop ship system has been replaced at the municipal Viana albergue Andres Munoz with the standard two tier bunk system. All is more solid and sturdy making it is a simple convenient place to stay. Here is their Gronze.com site

Viana has many very good restaurants. One favorite and nearby the municipal albergue is the restaurant in the Palacio de Pujados hotel where local vintners seem to enjoy eating well. Recently the menu del dia was roughly 15 euros including 3 courses, a bottle of local Rioja wine and coffee; all were superb! Here is their TripAdvisor citation. Enjoy!

(2013) We couldn't bring ourselves to manage the three tier bunks so opted for a cheap hotel room for two.

The Palacio de Pujados is also a lovely place to stay: a bit like a Parador inside, with interesting historic furnishings and helpful staff.

I can second the recommendation for the municipal albergue in Viana, great location and yes, normal bunk beds. Buen Camino, SY

I also stayed in the Municipal Albergue in Viana last May and it was good. I went to the Information Centre in the square opposite the Church to ask about the Parrochial Albergue but it was closed until June, so that is another possible option for a Donativo Albergue with a communal meal.

Another good stop in Viana is the Oasis Trails place on the right hand side of the main street shortly past the Church. Here you can get a drink and information from the volunteers. Oasis Trails are the Association group who also run the Albergue Hogar de Monjardin in Villamayor de Monjardin, another lovely place to stay.

We stayed at the parroquial albergue and slept on mats. Not great but we were inside with a place to sleep.

The parochial albergue in Viana is one of my favorites.
The mats are comfortable, they feed you a nice family-style dinner, and you often get to attend a special Pilgrim's Mass.

We stayed at Pension San Pedro last year, it was convenient, clean - nothing fancy, but perfectly adequate.

Your choice the Hotel Margarida is in Viana do Castelo, Portugal and looks very elegant. However the OP wished a spot in Viana on the Camino Frances. Nevertheless the Margarita might be visited when next in VdC.

Viana do Castelo is a very nice seaside town with a pilgrim albergue, S. João da Cruz dos Caminhos. However if you are searching for private accommodation, consider the OLarenjeiro, rua Rua Manuel Espregueira, 24. .It a charming newly furnished small place with a very good dining room. Just before Christmas 2014 a double room with private bath and delicious breakfast was 45 euros. Quite a bargain!

We also stayed at the parochial albergue. The night's sleep was not great with the thin mats, but it was one of the best experiences we had on the Camino. The hospitalerios had just opened up two days before so we were put to work to help cleaning up, fixing the meal, etc. The priest after mass came around and layed hands on each of us with the blessings and then joined us for supper. After supper he took us to the choir loft and tried to teach us some simple songs. It was similar to Granon, but a much smaller more intimate group.

I stayed in Albergue Izar just as you enter town. Good clean modern and communal meal and breakfast. It has small rooms upstairs for just 6 or larger dorms on the ground floor. Washing machines and roof top patio for drying. Cooking facilities if you wish to make your own food. The only problem is that it is at the bottom of the short steep street into town so where pilgrims in other albergues had that behind them in the morning, I still had to climb it.

Yes it is Izar. I stayed there with Camino daughter(?). We did enjoy it but the uphill start next day was a big test.
